ScripTeast Award Winner announced!

The winner is Nannok by Simeon Ventislavov and Milko Lazarov from Bulgaria. Special mention for Bodo Kox from Poland for his The Man with the Magic Box.

The Krzysztof Kieslowski ScripTeast Award for the Best Script from Eastern and Central Europe developed within a screenwriting programme organized by the Independent Film Foundation was presented at the Cannes Film Festival for the ninth time.

The award went to Simeon Ventislavov and Milko Lazarov from Bulgaria for “Nanook”, the story of an Inuit, returning to Greenland from emigration after years of living in Germany, following the news of her mother’s illness. It is a story about the coach of young and old generations, against the backdrop of dying culture, set in a harsh, exotic landscape.

The ScripTeast’s Advisory Board has also granted a Special Mention to Bodo Kox for “The Man With The Magic Box”. ScripTeast’ Advisory Board emphasised Kox’ fresh perspective in terms of story and style.

Number of previous Kieslowski award winners have already been produced, including “The House” (Zuzana Liova – Slovakia ), “Womb” (Benedek Fliegauf – Hungary), “The Japanese Dog” (Ioan Antoci – Romania), and “False Witness” (Iglika Triffonova – Bulgaria).
It this year’s editions 11 projects from 7 Eastern and Central European countries were participating in the programme:

“The Man with the Magic Box” by Bodo Kox (Poland)
“Wild Roses” by Anna Jadowska (Poland)

The authors were working on their scripts from September 2014 with the help and advice of Creative Advisors (among others: David Aukin one of the UK’s most respected drama producers. While being Head of Film at Channel 4 commissioned over 100 feature films including “Trainspotting”, “The Madness of King George”, “Secrets & Lies”, “Shallow Grave”, “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and films by Ken Loach, Peter Greenaway, Tony Harrison and many others; Sanford Lieberson, a longtime head of 20th Century Fox and co-producer of such masterpieces of world cinema as “The Mission”, “Thelma And Louise” and “Jabberwocky”) and Heads of Studies – Christian Routh and Tom Abrams.

ScripTeast is one of the most recognised and effective training programmes for experienced writers. 16 films have been produced based on the participating scripts, with further 8 currently in production The ScripTeast’s annual programme cycle includes 3 stationary sessions (in Poland, during Berlin and Cannes festivals) plus online consultations.

ScripTeast was created by Polish director and producer Dariusz Jablonski, in collaboration with his closest associates, producers: Violetta Kaminska and Izabela Wojcik. Together, besides wide international production activities through their companies Apple Film and Message Film, they created the Independent Film Foundation, which promotes ambitious films and its authors in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe.

ScripTeast is organised by the Independent Film Fundation with the support from EU Media Programme, Apple Film Production, Polish Film Institute, The National Culture Centre, Masovia Film Fund in cooperation with, among others, European Film Academy, Polish Television and renowned international producers’ associations: Producers Network, Transatlantic Partners, ACE and Film New Europe.
