ScripTeast at Berlinale – busy Sunday
3 intensive days at Berlinele means for the writers individual meetings with Heads of Studies, Tom Abrams and Christian Routh to discuss the progress of work done since our session in Poland but not only.
Today we had a training pitching done by Jan Miller. Recently brought on as an International Consultant for the CMPA (Canadian Media Production Association), Jan draws from over 25 years working in the international market place as consultant, connector and trainer, presenting one of the top Pitching and Concept Development workshops in the world. From Guadalajara to Hong Kong, Cuba to Cannes, Cartagena to Berlin, she continues to work with key industry players around the world to connect projects and talent.
Jan was the architect of Strategic Partners one of the world’s pre-eminent international co-production markets, featuring Canadian talent. She served as its Director for 15 years. Jan also worked with the Erich Pommer Institut (EPI) to design and present Trans Atlantic Partners, one of the top international co-production training programs, bringing together Canadian, European and American producers to explore co-venturing and co-production opportunities. TAP presenting partners include EPI, IFP New York and its new partner this year, CMPA. Jan continues as TAP’s Head of Studies. Jan was also instrumental in launching and serving as Executive Director for one of Canada’s top film schools, the National Screen Institute, designing its Features First and Drama Prize programs.
5 years ago Jan took on the founding Chair position of WIFT-Atlantic and its annual Women Making Waves conference. This organization now has close to 200 members from the four Atlantic provinces. Over the years Jan has won many awards and accolades including a Toronto WIFT Crystal Award, a Woman of Vision Award, and AMPIA Award for her contribution to Alberta’s screen industry and most recently, WIFT-AT’s WAVE Award for her generous and visionary contributions to the Nova Scotia screen industry.
Writers had also a chance to meet Brigitta Manthey – Funding advisor at Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg responsible for development, production (especially Eastern European Co-Productions), German-Polish Co-Development Fund and Editorial Office.
