THE KRZYSZTOF KIESLOWSKI SCRIPTEAST AWARD 2022 FOR THE BEST SCRIPT FROM EASTERN EUROPE HAS BEEN PRESENTED AT THE 75th CANNES FILM FESTIVAL FOR THE SIXTEENTH TIME.
Cannes, 25 May 2022
OUR PLACE IS OUTER SPACE by Daniel Daoud and Simon Szabo from Hungary has won the Krzysztof Kieślowski ScripTeast Award 2022 for the Best Eastern European Script. Special Mention went to THE FERRYMAN by Jan Koos from Slovakia.
The award, including a checque for €10.000, was presented on May 24th this year during the Cannes Film Festival by the ScripTeast Artistic Board: Doreen Boonekamp, Sandy Lieberson, Antonio Saura, Manfred Schmidt, and Simon Perry, along with longtime heads of studies Christian Routh and Gyula Gazdag.
The Artistic Board were charmed by the uplifting tone of this script and especially the way it manages to convey a sense of magic in such a convincingly authentic way. The hope and friendship that emerges between the two main characters, both outsiders living in a grim environment, presents a thoughtful and inspiring depiction of childhood dreams that is written with great sensitivity.
The Artistic Board found that the high quality of creativity manifesting in the work of the participating screenplays calls for the addition of a “special mention” to this year’s recognition. For the creative and sharply observed depiction of a surreal world and its characters, the Special Mention was awarded to the screenplay THE FERRYMAN, written by Jan Koos, from Slovakia.
The winner was chosen from the 10 screenplays from 10 Central and Eastern European countries that took part in the 16th edition.
