Simon Perry

As an independent producer during the 1980s Simon Perry produced or co-produced 10 feature films, notably with British director Michael Radford (Another Time, Another Place; Nineteen Eighty-Four; White Mischief). During 1991-2000 he was head of the UK’s national film agency, British Screen, funding 150 films by British and European directors. These included outstanding work by Neil Jordan (The Crying Game), Sally Potter (Orlando; The Tango Lesson), Mike Leigh (Naked; Topsy-Turvy), Ken Loach (Land & Freedom; Bread & Roses), Derek Jarman (Edward II), Richard Loncraine (Richard III), Alain Berliner (Ma Vie En Rose) and Marleen Gorris (Antonia’s Line); and early films by discoveries such as Michael Winterbottom (Butterfly Kiss), Milcho Man-chevski (Before The Rain), Kevin Macdonald (One Day In September), Asif Kapadia (The Warrior), Gurind-er Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham) and Danis Tanovic (No Man’s Land). He then headed the Irish Film Board, 2006-2010, promoting a period of brilliant work by Irish filmmakers including John Carney (Once), Lenny Abra-hamson (Garage), Lance Daly (Kisses) and John Mi-chael McDonagh (The Guard). During 2015-2016 he was head of international production at Film i Väst in Swe-den, the largest regional fund in Scandinavia. There he supported new and successful European directors such as Tomasz Wasilewski (United States Of Love), Dome Karukoski (Tom Of Finland) and Juho Kuosmanen (The Happiest Day In The Life Of Olli Mäki). Until 2018 he was president of ACE Producers, the Amsterdam-based provider of advanced producer-training, and he remains as its senior consultant.
