    PRINCESS MAYA

Princess Maya is a period drama set in Georgia in the early 1920s when the Red Army invaded Georgia. Aristocrats were declared as the enemies of the people, chased down, deprived of all their property, and either executed or sent into exile. The story focuses on Princess Maya, the last surviving member of one of the Georgian noble families. After losing her wealth and power, Maya, accused of witchcraft, faces imprisonment. She leaves everything behind and heads towards the Black Sea to save herself. On this path, she is accompanied by her faithful maid Daphino and former peasant Ambako, now a Bolshevik who remains loyal to Maya for his love for Daphino. The journey is challenging and dangerous, full of obstacles. As the story unfolds, Maya begins to realize that her life is fading away, there is no place for her in this new world. The only way left for her to survive is to flee her homeland forever. At the beginning of the story, while crossing the overflowing river, Maya loses her horse and nearly dies. After this incident, she starts to see glimpses of the future.A fragmented image of a woman appears in her visions – Maya sees herself a hundred years later (in the 2020’s). In this day and age, Maya is immersed in her day-to-day life, trying to escape herself and go with the flow. Unlike Princess Maya’s fateful obstacles, her only struggle is with insomnia. During a CT scan, modern-day Maya sees Princess Maya in the reflection of the mirror. The film’s action unfolds in two phases – two women, in different times, go through different paths – one physical, the other – internal. While Princess Maya’s journey is stretched in time, the modern-day Maya walks the same path in one day. They complement each other. Eventually, their paths unite and both women gain peace of mind through each other.
