    XVI edition


    March 1950. In the midst of the hardest communist dictatorship, the Czechoslovakian national hockey team is ready to leave forLondon to defend the world championship title. But the communist goverment has different plans. Under the cover of made-up excuse, the team is forced to stay in the Czechoslovakia. Vladimír Zábrodský, the captain and coach of the team, is being pressured by the goverment and by his father to give up the championship. Augustin Bubník, the rising young starof the team, is all about girls and hockey. He doesn’t get along with Zábrodský. Neither doesBohumil Modrý, recently retired goaltender. He is weighing his options regarding the escape from the Czechoslovakia. He has a dilemma: he has a wife and daughters and his wife is really worried about the outcome. The escape is arrangedbyAmerican ambassador Henry Smith, who is trying to crumble the communist regime from within. And in the next three days, their lives will be forever changed.

    Jakub Votýpka

    (*1992) is the screenwriter from the Czech Republic. He first started writing and making short movies with his brother Jan. Their first short movie Bloody Parcel (2008) was selected for New York International Independent Film and Video Festival. He graduated fromJAMU in Brno, field of study Radio and TV screenwriting and dramaturgy.While at school, he got the chance to work as a screenwriter on the TV Series The Lynching (2018). The Lynching was later broadcasted on ARTE TV in Germany and France. Jakub also directedshortdocumentary Word Punches (2015), which was selected forthe 55th International Film Festival for Children and Youth in Zlín. He worked on other projects for both public and commercial TV.The screenplay for the movie On the Edgehave won the prize of theBarrandov andInnogy FilmFoundation, which has beenawarded at the 55th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
