Jimmy Karlsson

After his BA in Film and Philpsophy 1983, Jimmy Karlsson worked as production manager for commercials (Roy Andersson/Studio 24) TV-producer, produced shorts and developed features. He also worked as assistant director, among them “All Things Fair” (directed by Bo Widerberg, Oscar nomination best foreign film 1996) and “Il Capitano” (directed by Jan Troell, Silver bear Berlin 1992). Jimmy Karlsson closed his company, went back to Stockholm university to study what makes a good script.  He took his MA in Film Dramaturgy 1996.

Jimmy Karlsson developed and co-wrote Jan Troell’s “As White as in Snow” (Swedish Guldbagge for best film 2001), co-produced, wrote and directed “A Breach in the Wall” (2003, Tribeca, Kairo et.al).  He has written several feature films and TV-series,  some togeher with his partner Kirsi Vikman. The most internationlly renowned is “Mother of Mine”, directed by Klaus Härö (2003, Golden Satillite award, best film at Kairo, Palm Springs, Khanty-Mansiisk et.al.). Other scripts are the TV-series “Where We Once Walked” (2010, based on Kjell Westö’s novel) and “The Disciple” (Finnish Oscar entry 2013).  He script consulted the Swedish success “Easy Money” (2010), the Finnish Oscar entries “The Fencer” (2015, Golden Globe nom.) and “Tom of Finland” (2017) and “The Nile Hilton Incident” by writer/director Tarik Saleh (2017, winner at Sundance and Guldbagge best Swedish film et.al.).

Jimmy Karlsson has also mentored several script labs and seminars through the years. Among them the European youth and children script dev. PYGMALION PLUS (2007 and 2008) and EUROPEAN SCRIPT MEETING in RIGA 2015 and 2016.
